CARDS WIN!! Of Course...

With temperatures more like those of late June or early July, the Springfield Cardinals played their final spring training exhibition game of the 2012 season on Monday, April 2 at Hammons Field in Springfield, hosting their parent club the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals.

An enthusiastic Cardinals’ nation crowd of 10,079 filled the seats and green spaces in Hammons Field for the rather quickly played contest, which was won by St. Louis 3-2, as they grabbed a 3-0 midway through the game and held on for the win in their final spring game as well.  Autograph hounds pressed forward during much of the pregame activities getting the signatures of many of their favorites from the championship team on balls, bats, hats and photographs.  St. Louis returned to their spring training facility in Florida immediately following the contest and are scheduled to open the regular 2012 Major League season on Wednesday, April 3 against the Miami Marlins in Miami.  The Springfield Cardinals will officially open their 2012 campaign on Thursday, April 4 when they host Frisco in Texas League action.
